Fuel prices to change as energy board invokes another interrupter

The price of regular self-serve gasoline held steady in Halifax at 162.0 cents per litre on Friday, but that’ll change midnight as an interrupter will be invoked.

Every Friday, the Nova Scotia Energy Board adjusts weekly pump prices, but on the heels of an interrupter on Monday that saw gas prices increase by 9.3 cents, the regulator did not make any changes overnight.

Diesel prices did see a decrease of 5.3 cents at midnight to 211.1 cents.

But Friday afternoon, the board announced it would be invoking the interrupter to change gas and diesel prices.

The NEB said this change is necessary due to significant shifts in the market prices.

Changes in weekly pump prices occur partly as a result of the market price of oil, which we have seen skyrocket since the war in the Middle East began, with prices now hovering near $100 per barrel.

One year ago, Nova Scotians were paying 1.55 for gasoline and diesel prices were set at 1.79.
