Apartment building on Cole Harbour catches fire

On Aug. 22, around 10:18 p.m., Halifax firefighters responded to alerts set off by smoke detectors after a room in an apartment building caught fire.

A third-floor alarm detected the smoke, though the incident was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional fire fighters. When entering the building, firefighters were quickly able to locate the fire inside of a room.

When discovering the fire, firefighters also noticed a resident still inside, suffering from smoke inhalation. After evacuating the building, the resident was moved into the care of responding paramedics.

Crews were able to get the fire under control, while other firefighters searched and cleared the apartment, and its neighbouring buildings.

After the fire was put out, crews were able to clear out the remaining smoke inside of the building.
