Pilot not seriously hurt when low-flying plane crashes into tree

YARMOUTH, N.S. – Police say a small plane crashed into a tree in Nova Scotia’s Yarmouth County, but that the one person on board was not seriously hurt.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Craig Seafoot says the plane went down at around 11:30 a.m. yesterday in the village of Arcadia.

In a release, police said the Piper Cub was flying low and struck a tree, which it was still lodged in near Kinney Road.

Seafoot said the pilot was to be taken to hospital for an assessment after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been contacted, but offered no other details on why the plane was flying at a low altitude.
