2 people arrested after injuring RCMP officer during traffic stop in Chester

Mounties have charged two people after their vehicle struck an RCMP officer in Chester on Monday.

At roughly 9 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver in a parking lot on Highway 3.

Police said an RCMP officer approached the suspect vehicle, a Ford Flex, and spoke with the driver, who was showing signs of impairment.

According to officials, the driver then sped off, dragging the officer into a police vehicle. They suffered minor injuries and were examined by EHS at the scene.

As the Flex continued to flee, it sideswiped a vehicle and crashed into a guardrail.

Mounties say a male driver and a female passenger tried to take off on foot before being arrested.

Ryan Jacob Wheeler, 37, of Stonehurst, is facing a number of charges include assault of a peace officer with a weapon, flight from a peace officer and resisting arrest, among other.

This while Sahara Lee Dorey, 26, from Lunenburg, has been charged with resisting arrest.
