A Halifax couple has contacted the Human Rights Commission after they were kicked off a Metro Transit bus.
On Sunday Farzana Naz and Mohammad Eshan were told the double-stroller carrying their six-month-old twins was too big and they were denied access.
Naz tells CTV she’s demanding apologies from Metro Transit and the bus driver.
“My babies are only six months, last six months we were riding the bus they were nice and good and everything,” she said tearfully. “This time today the bus driver just turn us from the bus because we have double-stroller.”
Metro Transit’s Lori Patterson says their policy states drivers may deny access to people with large strollers.
“It’s up to each individual operator’s discretion. They have the discretion under the Occupational Health and Safety Act,” she said. “That’s a common issue with transit systems everywhere that we do recognize. People are all trying to travel however, we also have to try to ensure that people can get on and off the bus safely.”‘
Patterson says officials will review the incident.
