Rainfall warning issued for Halifax as nor’easter hits region

By Stephen Wentzell

After pounding the United States' East Coast, a nor'easter is making its way to Atlantic Canada.

Here in Nova Scotia, rainfall warnings have been issued in the Halifax region as well as along the South Shore, with rainfall amounts between 50 and 100 millimetres expected.

Special weather statements are also active for the rest of Nova Scotia, calling for wind gusts in excess of 80 km/h in exposed coastal areas and rainfall amounts between 30 and 45 millimetres.

“The good news is the nor'easter isn't strengthening rapidly like some of them tend to do.” CityNews weather specialist John Wilson says, calling the storm “just a hint of things to come.”

Environment Canada is reminding residents to keep catch basins clear of leaves and debris to help with drainage when possible.

The heaviest rain is anticipated to end by Thursday morning.
