A 76-year-old man has been charged with a sexual assault that happened in Dartmouth.

On Sept. 22, Halifax Regional Police were told a man had sexually assaulted a youth he was acquainted with between June and September of this year.

Police allege the man was also in contact with others under the age of 16 during that time period, which violates his probation order.

Carl Richard Nielsen has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and breach of prohibition order.

He's scheduled to appear in court today.

"Out of respect and concern for the victim's privacy and wellbeing, we are not releasing any further details regarding the incident," said HRP in a news release.
