The winter parking ban has stirred up a petition against it.
“Halifax may not be the city that never sleeps, but we are the city that likes to stay up and do stuff,” says John Wesley Chisholm who started up the petition against the ban.
Chisholm says the city is usually all about consultation and communication too.
Downtown councillor Dawn Sloane ended up with a ticket herself. She says she’s tempted to sign the petition herself.
“I came home from council and I was reading over notes for a meeting I had the next day and as usual I fell asleep and I woke up at 5:30 to find out that I had a ticket from 5 in the morning.”
The parking ban has come under fire after nearly 400 tickets were handed out in the first days of the ban — days where the streets were bare of any snow.
Traffic authority Ken Reashore says he understands the public’s frustration. He says it would be nice if people made arrangements and got their vehicles off the street when snow hits, predicted or not. However he says the problem is people don’t always do that.
