Mooseheads win second straight

The Halifax Mooseheads managed a 2-1 win over second-place Drummondville Voltigeers despite being shorthanded for the final two minutes of the game Sunday.

“It’s a big one, we’re on a bit of a home stand now, and it’d be nice to go on a bit of a charge to try for a playoff spot,” says Mooseheads goaltending coach Brad MacCharles.

Mooseheads captain Thomas Knotek drew a penalty in the dying minutes of the first period after a individual effort in the Drummondville zone. On the powerplay a wrist shot by Konrad Abeltschauser wrist shot, fooled a screened Allen.

A pretty passing play on the powerplay from Carl Gelinas and Brent Andrews to Pascal Amyot gave the Mooseheads a 2-0 lead

The Voltigeurs notched their own powerplay goal midway through the third period. Then the Mooseheads appeared to hand the tying goal to the Voltigeurs on a platter when they took a too-many-men penalty with 2:20 remaining. However the penalty kill managed to hold Drummondville off the shot clock in the final minutes.

Voltigeurs goaltender Jake Allen played his third game in less than 48 hours, dropped two goals on 22 shots.

At the other end of the rink, Mooseheads goaltender Peter Delmas made first star of the game who looked calm throughout the game despite facing 36 shots.

“They peppered us pretty good but he did a real good job at controlling the game,” says MacCharles.

“For the most part we did a good job at keeping people to the outside, but when he had to be he was right on the money.”

Drummondville’s thirty-goal scorer Gabriel Dumont, who exploded for four goals the night before, was held to just one assist.

The Mooseheads play the Shawinigan Cataractes Tuesday, catch the game live on News957, pregame starts at 6:48pm.
