Battle of summer shows already heating up

It’s not too early to start wishing for your favourite music act to perform in Halifax this summer.
Moncton is getting the CFL game, and P.E.I. landed country superstar Taylor Swift, leaving residents of HRM Haligonians to wonder what this summer’s big event will be.
The Country Rockfest is slated for August, with headliners Johnny Reid and Alan Jackson.
President of Master Promotions Harold MacKay says he’s going for something bigger in July, but won’t say if it’s a rock show.
“I can’t tell you that,” he said. “Certainly I had Kiss and Paul McCartney which were great shows in that rock category I would say.”
He dispels any rumours of U2 coming to Halifax.
“It’s a huge spectacle and they don’t like playing outdoors in fields,” said MacKay.
Destination Halifax President Patricia Lyall says we’re still the leader when it comes to attracting those big events.
“[That’s] because of the critical mass of infrastructure that we have with regard to all the variety of services and other things to see and do,” Lyall said.
She says she’d love to attract every major concert and sporting event, but says that’s not realistic.
