Drivers now required to slow down for emergency vehicles

There’s been a new addition to Nova Scotia’s rules of the road.
As of this weekend, drivers must now reduce their speed to 60 km/h or the posted speed limit, whichever is less, when passing a stopped emergency vehicle with lights flashing.
On a twinned highway, you’ll also have to move into the passing lane if it’s safe to do so.
Along with police cars, fire trucks and ambulances, drivers must also slow down when passing stopped Department of Natural Resources fire trucks, vehicles used by conservation officers, and the Department of Transportation’s vehicle inspection cruisers.
Fines for breaking the new law range from $340 to $2400.
