Junior high principal’s fight might not be over

The fight over Ken Fells job may not be done yet.

After an 8 hour meeting lasting into the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Halifax Regional School Board decided not to fire the popular school principal, but he won’t be returning to Graham Creighton Junior High, at least not this year.

All that deputy school board chair Steve Brine would say is that Fells has not been let go. However he would not say why Fells wasn’t being reassigned back to his junior high.

“This is a personnel matter so I can’t get into the details of the actual decision that was made,” says Brine.

Fells has been on paid leave since a March altercation with a student at Graham Creighton Junior High. Supporters say he was standing up to bullying.

Fells says he appreciates all the support he’s been getting and he hopes that continues.

He’s waiting now for reassignment, but adds there will be other steps if he doesn’t get what he and the community want, a return to Graham Creighton Junior High and it could mean legal action.
