Reprieve! Third big nor’easter veers away from Maritimes

Maritimers have dodged a third weather bullet.
After two big storms in the last two weeks, a third that was expected to materialize overnight has moved off to the south.
News 95.7 meterologist Richard Zurawski says that meant all the predicted snow and rain went with it.
“The only place that really got any significant amounts of snow was the Cobequid Pass and in through the Moncton area,” he said. “Other than that, it was mostly rain. We got a little bit of snow, probably less than a centimetre in total amounts and then everything came down in the form of rain and even that wasn’t a lot.”
Zurawski says most areas got less than 20mm of total rainfall.
Environment Canada has lifted rainfall and wind warnings, but a storm surge warning is still in effect because of high tides and strong winds.
“It is a precaution because of the high tides, the storm surge was certainly there,” said Zurawski. “The winds are gusting between 70 and 75 kilometres an hour, although they did not reach the (expected) 90 in most areas.”
It’s a relief for residents in some parts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia who are still cleaning up after last week’s storm, which brought down trees, damaged buildings and caused extensive flooding.
