SPCA says it wasn’t contacted before sled dogs were killed

Update 9:40 a.m.: Outdoor Adventures, the company which runs Howling Dog Tours in Whistler, says it has voluntarily shut down.
Employees will still be paid to look after the remaining dogs. It also says veterinary inspections after the cull found the dogs left are healthy and well cared for.
WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – The BC SPCA is livid over suggestions it was contacted prior to the slaughter of 100 sled dogs.
Speaking live on News1130’s morning show, the SPCA‘s Marcie Moriarty says, “That is 100 per cent inaccurate.”
She says any suggestion her organization was contacted before the April slaughter is completely false. “It could not have happened before the slaughter; the meeting happened May 28th.”
In that meeting, Moriarty says the company described neutering its male dogs and reducing some of its numbers. She calls that an unfortunate part of the dog sledding industry.
She is adamant the SPCA never knew how the dogs were killed.
