Police react to complaints following latest shooting

Mounties and city police are responding to criticism from the public that not enough is being done to quell the gunplay after yet another shooting in metro.
Speaking for Halifax Regional Police and RCMP, Cpl. Scott MacRae said he understands people’s frustration but that police are being proactive in their efforts to quell the violence.
“When people engaged in this kind of violence in our community they will become the focus of police attention,” said MacRae.
“We’ll make sure that we conduct regular checks to ensure they are abiding by the conditions in hopes of arresting them for other crimes, maybe breaches or other violations, to get them off the street,” he said.
A Woodside resident says he’s frustrated that the violence in happening in his neighbourhood.
Halifax Regional Police were called to a house on Everett Street in Dartmouth around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday for the latest report of shots being fired.
“Now there’re gun shots in my neighbourhood,” David told the Rick Howe Show about 15 minutes after he heard the shots.
“Are the police doing their job? Are they really doing due diligence here?” he demanded. “Punks are going around with guns shooting at cars, shooting at people. This is totally ridiculous.”
Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man shot in the face in North Preston on Sunday, while wearing body armour.
Another young man was shot and killed while sitting in a parked car at a home in Lake Echo earlier in the month.
The murder investigations are among several other shooting incidents which have taken place across metro over the last few weeks.
There were no injuries or damages reported from Wednesday evening’s shooting in Woodside.
Police said three men were arrested and two firearms were seized at the scene. The men have been charged with weapons related offences and will appear in a Dartmouth court today.
“While we were responding, police observed a vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner,” Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders tells News 95.7. “At that time three occupants of the vehicle exited the car and took off. Police pursued the males and they were eventually apprehended.”
Two other men were questioned and released.
