Canadians head south for change of scenery

PEACE ARCH (NEWS1130) – It seems shopping isn’t a top priority as Canadians head south for the long weekend. People we’ve talked to are more interested in a change of scenery.
A lot of people say they’re heading down just to visit friends and relatives this long weekend, and if entering a mall or two is part of that visit, so be it. But for other Canadians who are shopping, they say they cross the border for better quality clothes.
“[They’re] better and cheaper,” argues one person in line.
“I think the brands are better than Canadian [ones],” says another.
Camping and partying are other major reasons folks say they’re willing to endure lineups at the border during their holidays. To while away the time in their cars, they’ve got their laptops, books, and conversation.
For some, the holiday will be a short one. “We come back up tomorrow to watch the hockey [game], being the good, loyal fans that we are,” says one woman.
While some shoppers are lured by the high Canadian dollar, perhaps others are staying at home because of the high price of gas.
