Gov. Gen. to make first official visit to N.S. next week

Halifax will roll out the red carpet for a very special visitor next week.
Governor General David Johnston’s will arrive for a three-day visit with his wife Sharon on Tuesday.
This will be the first official visit to Nova Scotia for the Queen’s representative, who was appointed to the position last fall.
Helen Wyman of the Monarchist League of Nova Scotia has been following the royals for decades and says she’s thrown off by the short notice of the trip, which was announced Wednesday.
“Years ago when the Governor General came, it was a big thing and the school kids knew about it and they had a chance to see him somewhere,” said Wyman. “This doesn’t sound like that kind of a visit.”
Johnston’s visit will kick off with an official welcome at Province House. He will then tour the National Marine Research Station in Ketch Harbor and the Centre for the Built Environment at NSCC’s Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth.
Despite the short notice, Helen Wyman says she’s still excited for the Governor General’s visit.
“I think it’s always nice when the Queen’s representative does come this way so people have a chance to see them and know who they are,” said Wyman.
A representative for the Governor General says there will probably be more events added to His Excellency’s itinerary in the coming days.
