Mayor Peter Kelly is donating his annual pay raise to charity for the second year in a row.
Kelly issued a news release Tuesday announcing the 5.92 per cent increase that kicked in Nov. 1 will be turned over to a good cause, though he does not specify which one.
Kelly states in the release, “these continue to be extremely difficult times for many citizens in the halifax regional municipality. I am aware of so many instances of real hardship and that many must do with less.”
Metro Halifax reports the raise works out to about $9000.
Regional councillors get an annual pay raise of 1.04 per cent.
