More NEXUS card holders, people using them more often

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re planning to cross the border for Black Friday, those NEXUS lanes actually might not get you across the border much faster. More people are joining the program and using their passes more often.

“In our region (British Columbia), there is approximately a 40 per cent increase, but nationally… there’s a 29 per cent increase in NEXUS membership,” says Adam Coultish with Canada Border Services Agency, adding the frequency of trips is also up.

“Last year, there were 1.7 million NEXUS passages into British Columbia by land and air. So far this year, just from April 1st to September 30th, we’ve seen just over 1.2 million,” he explains.

Coltish tells us more than 50,000 British Columbians got the pass between March 2010 and April 2011.
