Opposition parties slam NDP’s Bowater bailout

Nova Scotia’s opposition parties have taken a firm stance that it’s a clear example that things in the province need to be handled differently by the Dexter government.
PC leader Jamie Baillie says by focusing on things like tax rates, energy policy and balanced labour laws, we can create meaningful job opportunities without resorting to massive taxpayer bailouts.
In a release he says, “It’s unfortunate that this has to be done, but until Nova Scotia has an investment climate where we are attracting investment, instead of losing it, the government will be facing choices like this.”
Liberal leader Stephen McNeil says high taxes, skyrocketing power rates and high fuel costs are holding our businesses back, leading to the situation the province found itself in with Bowater.
McNeil adds he wants to ensure the money goes towards the mills operations and the sustainability of the community, not funding executive bonuses.
