The transit strike has already led to a boom in business for local cab companies.
Casino Taxi’s operations manager says calls were up about 10 per cent on Thursday compared to the week before.
Brian herman tells Metro more call-takers were brought in to handle the increased volume, and cab drivers are being encouraged to put in more hours.
There were also a lot more parking tickets issued Thursday, as commuters flooded the downtown, parking anywhere they could find a space.
Coun. Dawn Sloane (Halifax – Downtown) says she’s asked HRM staff to look into easing up on ticketing during the strike.
She tells Metro she’s also asked staff to look at options to increase parking availability – but while they investigate solutions, Sloane is urging drivers not to park illegally.
