Suspect arrested after standoff with police in Shelburne

It was a tense few hours for people living in a Shelburne neighbourhood as police dealt with a person barricaded in a home.

RCMP were called to the scene Monday evening after a report of a suspect inside a residence on Parr Street between George and Charlotte Street with a weapon.

When they arrived, officers evacuated the area as a precaution.

A short time later, police said that two people who tried to enter the residence were arrested on charges of obstruction and a third who was inside the home and exited.

Police said they called in a crisis negotiator to try to get a fourth person out of the home safely. After cutting power to the area just before 9 p.m. Monday, that person was arrested without incident.

No names have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
