Two men arrested for impaired driving after separate crashes

Police have arrested two men for impaired driving following separate crashes in HRM.

June 11 at roughly 3 p.m., officers responded to a report of a white SUV with roof racks in the ditch between the landfill and Sheet Harbour. Police said they responded but did not find the vehicle.

Then a second report came in less than an hour later about a white vehicle in the ditch near Boutilier’s Settlement Road in Spry Bay.

Mounties said they found a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the ditch, with a driver inside, who was showing signs of impairment.

The 20-year-old man from Fall River failed a breath test and was arrested for impaired driving.

Later that night at roughly 9:15 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Crowell Road, where officers found a Volkswagen GTI in the ditch with two injured passengers.

According to police, firefighters had found the driver leaving the scene and brought him back to the crash site.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Three Fathom Harbour, was arrested for impaired driving.

The investigation is ongoing.

Meantime, Halifax Regional Police released its impaired driving statistics from last month which showed police charged 50 drivers with impaired-related offences.
