House fire knocked down in Chezzetcook after 2.5 hours

A crew of firefighters were just starting their day when they got a call for a house fire on East Chezzetcook Road in Halifax Regional Municipality.

The initial call was for smoke in the air just after 7:00 a.m., but when the team arrived at the home, it was engulfed in flames. Engine 23 was the first on scene and quickly called for additional resources while they prepared a fast attack on the structure, a spokesperson with Halifax fire told CityNews.

The flames had burned through the roof of the single-family home before firefighters arrived.

Bringing hoses around the building, crews attempted to tamp down the flames. After two and a half hours of dousing the blaze, crews got it under control.

Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, the union, said in a release that teams were also focused on protecting nearby structures and the forest from catching.
