‘Dated’ N.S. resorts need upgrades: minister

The provincial tourism minister says three provincially owned resorts are in need of a facelift.

Percy Paris says he will be making a presentation to cabinet soon on what he thinks should be done to improve the condition of Digby Pines, Keltic Lodge and Liscombe Lodge before the next tourism season.

“It’s well known that the signature resorts are, in my opinion, in need of some investment of money,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Paris says an investment of $11 million to $15 million should be enough for the necessary cosmetic upgrades, which will make the resorts more attractive to potential buyers.

“I think that the signature resorts are economic generators for the regions that they’re located in and we want to maintain that presence,” he said.

Four companies responded to tenders the province sent out in December asking for ideas to ensure the continued operation of the resorts.

Paris says there is no update at this point on the status of those expressions of interest.
