Sexual assault suspect re-arrested

A convicted sex offender is back behind bars on new charges.

22 year old Robert Thomas Crowe of Cole Harbour was released from custody Monday after a paperwork glitch delayed his transfer from the Burnside Jail to the law courts.

Crowe was arrested last night on new charges that include sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, robbery and breach of conditions. All charges involve the same victim described in the previous case against Crowe.

Police spokesman Brian Palmeter says police and the crown got together and reviewed the case. Based on further investigation of the original case, the severity of the original charge and concern for public safety, Crowe was re-arrested instead of waiting for Crowe’s next court appearance later this month.

Crowe’s release earlier in the week brought outrage from a women’s sexual assault group as well as the family member of a previous victim.
