A former Liberal MLA from Cape Breton is being investigated by the RCMP for his expense claims.
The Herald says Russell MacKinnon’s files are being looked into as part of the review into how politicians were spending tax dollars.
In May, the auditor general had given the files of one current and four former MLA’s to the RCMP.
In June, the Speaker indicated there was a sixth referral to police and that it was someone who wasn’t sitting at the time of the election.
MacKinnon, the former Cape Breton West member, left the Grits to sit as an independent in 2006.
It’s not clear what part of his expenses is under scrutiny.
