Race for mayor in Halifax getting tighter according to a new survey

A new poll is finding the race for mayor in Halifax is getting closer.

The survey from Narrative Research, the third released through the Halifax Chamber of Commerce since August, finds Andy Fillmore remains the preferred candidate for voters with 24 per cent support.

Fillmore is now followed closely by Waye Mason who is now the preferred candidate for 19 per cent of respondents. Pam Lovelace is in third at 12 per cent.

Fillmore’s support has dropped five points since the last survey in mid-September while Mason has seen his support increase by six points.

The poll also notes that creating better public transit is the top issue for respondents, followed closely by providing suitable housing options for the unhoused.

“I am not surprised by the increasing importance of better transit as a concern for residents. Increasing traffic, with more housing units coming on stream, is of concern to both residents and business owners,” Patrick Sullivan, President and CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, said. “We are looking forward to the Joint Regional Transportation Agency’s report and the support that both the province and the municipality will provide to transit.”

The survey finds three in ten people remain unsure who they will support for mayor.
