Mayor Peter Kelly is defending his and council’s pay formula and denying that it guarantees an increase.
“It is an averaging across the country, so we’ll never be the lowest paid,” says Kelly.
Kelly, speaking on Maritime Morning, says he thinks he gets a fair salary.
“Compared to what’s going on across the country, sure,” says Kelly. “Compared to some of the time frames it takes for this job, possibly.”
Kelly says there’s no guarantee there will be a raise, but caller Steve in Bedford called to challenge the mayor on that.
“They can say, no we don’t have an input,” says Steve. “But the formula they put in place guarantees a raise.”
The mayor says it may be time to review how they calculate pay, as long as they don’t go back to the days where council set its own paycheque.
