NS Premier applaudes revised NB Power deal

Premier Darrell Dexter is applauding the move by the New Brunswick government to revise its planned sale of NB Power to Hydro-Quebec.
“(New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham) responded specifically to the issues that we had set out in respect to transmission lines and capacity,” says Dexter.
The revised plan, keeps the utility as a New Brunswick crown corporation. It will retain ownership of transmission lines, but sell its hydro-electric facilities, and the Point Lepreau nuclear plant for $3.2 billion.
Dexter congratulated Graham on listening to the concerns of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
He says that’s important because decisions will now be made in the interest of the region, rather than that of Hydro-Quebec.
New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham says it shows he’s listened to the public outcry.
“That is why we have negotiated an arrangement which now sees us benefitting from all of the benefits of energy pricing yet sees New Brunswickers still owning NB Power,” says Graham.
