Email suggests staffing problems compounded Spryfield fire

Some questions are being raised again about the spryfield area fires last spring.
An e-mail written by Halifax Fire Chief Bill Mosher two weeks after the fire suggests a staffing problem may have contributed to the fire that destroyed at least eight homes and forced 1200 people to evacuate.
The CBC reports fire crews tended a fire off Herring Cove Road April 29, went back the next day to check on it and decided it was safe to return to the station for a lunch break.
The crew didn’t make it back to the scene after lunch because of a temporary
staffing issue. A fire started up in the area that afternoon and then quickly spread.
Fire officials maintain the staffing issue had no bearing on the fire.
