Study grades Nova Scotia’s high schools

A new report ranks the province’s high schools and two HRM schools are on either ends of the list.

“Schools at the bottom of the list are catching up with the top,” says Bobby O’Keefe the report’s co-author.

The lowest overall grade is a C, with Metro’s high schools scattered throughout the rankings.

O’Keefe says schools like Cole Harbour District High, which landed near the bottom, can be traced back to a couple of things.

“School marks in math, school marks in language arts and their provincial exam marks tend to be the areas where they’re rated a bit lower,” says O’Keefe.

Meanwhile Bedford’s CP Allen is ranked near the top.

He says he’d like a system where students can choose their school. He says that could provide extra incentive for lower-ranked schools to improve.
