Jack Irving dead at 78

SAINT JOHN – A member of Atlantic Canada’s iconic Irving family has passed away today.

John E. (Jack) Irving, who headed numerous construction and engineering companies in the province, died in Saint John this morning following a brief illness.

He was 78 years old.

Irving was the youngest son of Irving Oil founder K.C. Irving.

He joined the family business in 1952 at the request of his father, and managed construction and engineering projects.

He became a member of the Order of Canada in 2008.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Anglican Church in Saint John.

A private family interment will be held later.
