Tattoo performers arrive in Halifax despite ash cloud delays

With less than a week to go before the launch of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, acts from around the world are arriving in Halifax.
Last week, it looked like a marching drill team from New Zealand and a group of Australian Dancers wouldn’t make it because of delays caused by a volanic ash cloud emanating from Chile.
But Tattoo marketing manager Thomas Grotrian tells News 95.7 the teams made it out hours before New Zealand airspace was closed and finally arrived this weekend.
“We’re delighted that they’re here, because they have put in so much hard work,” he said. “They’ve been fundraising for months, they’ve been rehearsing for months, so not to be able to do it would be a crying shame for them.
Grotrian said the Tattoo has a back-up plan in place for just such emergencies.
“Should something like this happen, then one of the other groups would step up and fill that spot with a second scene that they’ve prepared, and hadn’t necessarily been expecting to use,” he explained.
Grotrian says all the performers have now arrived in Halifax except for one group from Germany, which is scheduled to arrive today.
The Tattoo opens this Friday with a matinee show and runs until July 8.
