No layoffs at Nova Forge, despite damaging fire

A top Nova Forge official says he doesn’t expect any layoffs after a fire that caused extensive damage to the building.

The fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Trenton facility, which is adjacent to the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering operation.

Nova Forge GM Rob MacEachern tells the New Glasgow News that in spite of the damage, work was expected to be restarted today.

The Herald reports part of the building has collapsed, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the engineering operation.

A spokesman for Daewoo praised the firefighters, who were still on the scene at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
