RCMP investigating explosion at Stewiacke machine shop

The RCMP and the fire marshal’s office are investigating a fire and multiple explosions at a machine shop in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia on Saturday.
The deputy fire chief says responding to the fire was like entering a “war zone.” About 20 people were forced from their homes after multiple explosions rang out at BJ Electric Motor and Control on George Street. Deputy fire Chief Mark Crozier says there were so many explosions, he lost count.
The RCMP say the first explosion occurred shortly after employees noticed a small fire. Corporal Addie Maccallum says several other explosions followed as the flames spread, fuelled by combustible materials stored on site.
Two firefighters were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Crozier says one of the firefighters hurt his ankle while another was treated for dehydration.
Evacuees were allowed to return to their homes about two hours after the fire broke out. No word yet one what caused the fire.
