Biggest quarterly population decrease since 1971 for Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia’s population shrank a lot early this year.
In the first three months of 2013, Statistics Canada says 1700 fewer people were living here. That’s a decline of one fifth of one per cent (-0.2%).
To put it another way, that’s the biggest population decrease for all quarters in Nova Scotia since 1971.
Statistics Canada says the decline was mainly because of interprovincial migration, with a net move of more than 1100 people to Alberta.
As of April 1, there were 945,000 people living in Nova Scotia.
