Police respond to stabbing and lay attempted murder charge

Halifax Regional Police were called numerous times over the weekend, with some serious charges being laid in one incident
Between June 13 and 15, there were 786 calls for service, police said.
The first notable call happened on Saturday around 2:05 p.m. Officers responded to a report of an assault in progress within the 70 block of Demetreous Lane in Dartmouth.
The victim, who is known to the suspect, was able to escape before police arrived. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home and refused to leave or comply with police’s asks. Negotiators were called to the scene and a warrant to enter the residence was obtained.
The victim was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Corey Aaron Whynder, 34, is charged with:
- Assault
- Unlawful confinement
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon (two counts)
- Resist arrest
The next day, police were called to another home where they laid serious charges against one person.
Around 12:20 a.m. on June 15, officers were told there was a stabbing at a house within the 60 block of Primrose Street in Dartmouth. Two men, who are known to each other, were involved in an altercation, where one of them stabbed the other with a knife.
After police arrested the suspect, they connected him to an earlier break and enter that happened at an NSLC that same evening. The victim was sent to hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Jayden Daniel Smith, 25, is facing offences of:
- Attempted murder
- Breach of probation (x2)
- Break and enter
- Possession of stolen goods under $5000.00
- Mischief
