The Halifax Mooseheads returned to the win column Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles, wrapping up 2025.
The Mooseheads bounced back from their previous game and controlled the first period. Oleg Kulebiakin broke an 11-game scoreless streak at 9:18, taking a pass at the blue line from Malik L’Italien and heading to the front of the Cape Breton goal before firing it past netminder Connor Towle. Lincoln Waugh then fired home his first regular-season goal, as a member of the Mooseheads, from the left-wing faceoff circle at 16:27, before Quinn Kennedy tapped the rebound off Samuel Rousseau’s wraparound into the Eagles’ net.
Former Moosehead Reece Peitzsche cut the Halifax lead to two at 14:20 of the second period.
In the third, Kulebiakin found himself on a breakaway and slipped the puck past Towle for his second of the night. Cape Breton answered back as Jacob Hartlin scored his third of the year on Nick Cirka, but Shawn Carrier scored his 20th of the season less than 20 seconds after Hartlin’s to secure the win for the Mooseheads.
With the win, Halifax improves to 18-14-1-1 on the season.
Kulebiakin earned first star of the game with a pair of goals for the Mooseheads. Hartlin was awarded second star with a goal, and third star went to Rousseau with two assists for Halifax.
The Mooseheads are back in action Saturday, Jan. 3, when they host the Moncton Wildcats at Scotiabank Centre.
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., with live coverage on 95.7 NewsRadio. Garreth MacDonald hosts the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 p.m.
