One Halifax ferry expected to return this month, another sidelined

Residents commuting by ferry can expect longer waits to cross the harbour between Dartmouth and Downtown Halifax.

As of Jan. 12, Halifax Transit has been running the ferry on a reduced schedule of every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. until 8:15 p.m. on weekdays.

That is down from its regular 15-minute schedule.

The municipality provided an update on Wednesday, saying repairs to the Vincent Coleman vessel, which broke down last week, are now expected to return to service by Jan. 31.

However, in a release, the authority says that timing may vary depending on delivery of required parts, which is currently being sourced from a supplier in Europe.

Halifax Transit also noted another of its fleet of five ferries, the Craig Blake, is undergoing scheduled maintenance as well as a “significant repair,” and will not be available for service until later this year.
