Charges stayed against suspicious package suspect

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After initially confirming a suspicious package found in an east Vancouver home contained explosives, police are now saying more testing needs to be done and they don’t know what the package contains. Mark Emile Trube, who turned himself in on Thursday in relation to the Monday night incident, has now been released. Charges of uttering threats and possession of explosives against him have also been stayed.
VPD Constable Jana McGuinness says the nature of what was in the suspicious package is in question. “We don’t know at this point whether we’re dealing with explosives, or a food item, or what. So we’ve requested further analysis to clarify.” Testing on the package could take months.
She says they’re also investigating the validity of the original 9-1-1 call from Monday afternoon. “We need to go back and re-interview the parents, and understand more fully what led up to those comments being made to 9-1-1 and where that information came from.”
37-year-old Trube turned himself in to police on Thursday morning at Crab Park in Vancouver after a Canada-Wide warrant for his arrest was issued.
Police were called to a home on 45th Avenue on Monday afternoon after reports of a suspicious package in the fridge on the second floor of the home. Police closed traffic and safely detonated the package over eight hours later.
