Fires damage home, school library

Two separate fires in Metro have singed a school library and seriously damaged a family home.
Fire crews were called to Ellenvale Junior High around 9:20 p.m.
“The fire was extinguished, however the structure was full of smoke (and) we had to ventilate,” Platoon Chief Mike Blackburn told News95.7.
“Fire damage is very, very minimal,” he said.
Blackburn says it looks like someone broke in and set the fire.
A short time before 4 a.m., firefighters got another call, to a home on North Street in Bedford, just off of Dartmouth Road. A shed and van were totally destroyed, and the flames spread to one end of the home.
“There was a family of five (at) home. They all got out safely,” Blackburn said. “Their dog had awoken them and when they looked out, they (saw) the fire.”
Blackburn said crews were still trying to determine the cause of the fire and where it began.
