Red Barn Fire now an arson investigation

The fire at the Big Red Barn in Cole Harbour Tuesday morning is now being investigated as an arson.  Regional fire investigators have determined the cause to be “incendiary” and have turned it over to the RCMP.

The building was destroyed early  Tuesday morning .

The barn was described as a centerpiece  for the Cole Harbour Parks and Trails Association.

Jim Tudor is the chief adviser for the Association.
“I can’t imagine how a barn that’s been there since 1940 could possibly offend or incite someone  to do that kind of malicious thing,” he says. “It just boggles the mind.”

Tudor says they have hopes of rebuilding.  They had some insurance on it, but not enough to cover costs.  He says they will be  approaching provincial government officials next week to see if the province can help them.

Besides losing the barn itself, Tudor says they also lost about $30- thousand worth of tools and supplies used  for their trail system.

RCMP are asking the public for any information on who might have been responsible.
