UPDATE: VPD won’t identify victim of shooting, yet

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver’s first murder of the year took down a well-known gangster at the Wall Centre last night. But police are not yet confirming it was Sandip Duhre.
There was no mention of Duhre by police as Cst. Lindsey Houghton addressed the media’s questions. The VPD is waiting until it gets a positive ID on the body from the autopsy before saying who was gunned down.
Houghton explains they are still in need of details to piece the case together, “There have been no arrests. There is currently no suspect information available. Investigators are continuing to follow up with witnesses and they are hoping that more witnesses will come forward today.”
The man, who has been identified by other sources as Duhre, was shot around 8:45 last night, while at Bar One. The shooter was also inside the restaurant.
Houghton says the timing and location is concerning, “The restaurant wasn’t full but there were dozens of people in the area at the time if you include patrons and staff. This is an unacceptable, brazen shooting that puts innocent people at risk.”

Only a few months ago, the Gang Task Force released a warning about the Duhre gang, suggesting anyone associated with the Abbotsford-based crime family could be a target.
From the Hornby Street side of one of the two buildings, a large bullet hole and what appears to be blood splatter could be seen in the window of the second floor restaurant.
Mike Tanaka lives in the complex and calls the shooting ‘shocking.’ “We live in a nice place; the downtown Wall Centre, I think it’s a nice, safe place. That’s why we chose this condo. But now that’s changing.”
