Sailor first Nova Scotian to qualify for 2012 Olympic Games

A 24-year-old sailor is the first Nova Scotian to qualify for this summer’s London Olympics.

Danielle Dube of Glen Haven did well enough this week at a World Cup event in Miami, Florida to earn Canada’s only Olympic berth in the laser radial class.

Dube tells The Chronicle Herald she’s been getting a lot of calls from friends and family but says it doesn’t feel real yet.

She adds she’s relieved to be going but it hasn’t sunk in.

Although Dube is the first athlete from the province to qualify, there are more than a dozen Nova Scotians in a variety of sports still in contention to head across the pond.

The London 2012 Olympic Games are set to begin on July 27th.
