Metro Transit loses revenue post-strike

It appears the six-week Metro Transit strike is hurting profits. Numbers for April 2012 compared to April 2011 show revenue is down about four per cent.
Transit spokesperson Tiffany Chase says the drop wasn’t surprising.
“We had anticipated an approximate four percent drop. That was in the range of what we were anticipating,” she says. “So it was included in the budget for 2012-13, so it will not impact any planned service adjustments that are already in place and approved by council.”
Chase says the city also has plans in place to bring riders back to transit.
“We do plan to have a ridership campaign in the fall that will include some incentives, things like the ability to win Metro Transit passes through contests and some social media contests and things like that to entice people to come back to transit.”
Ridership decreased by a similar amount after the last strike in the late 1990s.
