New CT technology to speed up screening at Halifax Stanfield this summer

Screening at Halifax Stanfield International Airport will be quicker this summer with the addition of new CT technology.

The Halifax International Airport Authority has added a fifth security screening line—up from four—in anticipation of the busy summer travel season.

In a release, the authority says the new line includes CT technology at the domestic and international screening area. That means passengers won’t have to remove liquids, gels or large electronic devices from their carry-on bags, helping to speed up the process.

“As we enter the peak summer season, we are pleased to work closely with our partners at CATSA to introduce an expanded security screening facility, including an additional line that will host one of CATSA’s new CT X-ray systems,” said Dean Bouchard, vice-president of airport planning and development with the Halifax International Airport Authority. “The ongoing implementation of this new technology at all five lines supports our ongoing commitment and investment in innovation, efficiency, and enhancing the passenger experience.”

The airport authority is also offering some tips for travellers:

  • Use the standby lot: This free waiting area is ideal for drivers picking up passengers. It reduces congestion at the arrivals curb.
  • Try Air Canada’s Digital ID: On select flights, passengers can use facial recognition to streamline boarding. More info is available on Air Canada’s website or app.
  • Prepare for security: Pack smart and review CATSA’s list of permitted and prohibited items at catsa.gc.ca.
  • Review parking options: Planning ahead can help secure your preferred spot.
  • Arrive early: Arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before international departures.
  • Use CBSA’s Advance Declaration and U.S. CBP’s Mobile Passport Control: International travellers can use the ArriveCAN app. For U.S.-bound passengers, the Mobile Passport Control app can simplify entry.
